Lumavery

Our story

A small house,
warmly run

Lumavery is a family-run boutique hotel in the heart of Quigney, restored with patience and run with genuine care. This is the story of how it came to be.

How it began

We fell for an old
house on the crescent

When we first saw the house on Belgravia Crescent, it had good bones and a tired heart — high ceilings, wide floorboards and a garden gone quietly wild. We spent two years bringing it back, keeping everything worth keeping and adding only what would make a guest more comfortable.

We wanted a hotel that felt like staying with friends who happen to be very good hosts — where nothing is stiff, nothing is scripted, and the welcome is real. Small enough that we know every guest, generous enough that you never feel it.

Today Lumavery is run by a close-knit team who live in and love East London. We're proud of this house, proud of our coast, and glad you're thinking of staying.

"We don't measure a stay by the thread count or the star rating. We measure it by whether you leave feeling rested, looked after and a little reluctant to go."

What we believe

The things we
hold to

Personal, always

We stay small on purpose. Being able to know every guest by name is not a nice extra — it's the whole point.

Local at heart

From the linens to the coffee to the makers we recommend, we back the Eastern Cape and the people who make it special.

Gentle on the world

We waste little, buy well and look after the old house and its garden so they'll be here for many guests to come.

Come and stay a while
